Carver Branch Closed for renovations

SAN ANTONIO (August 12, 2025) — The San Antonio Public Library (SAPL) has opened the Denver Heights Community Center, 300 Porter St., for interim service to Carver Branch Library patrons. The Carver Branch Library, 3350 E Commerce St., closed for renovations starting on August 11, 2025. The renovation project is expected to last approximately 20 months.

Patrons can pick up their holds and browse the library’s collection at this interim location. Public computers and Wi-Fi will be available soon. Hours of service at Denver Heights will be the same as at Carver Branch Library: Monday and Tuesday from noon to 8 p.m. and Tuesday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Full library services are available nearby at:

  • McCreless Branch Library, 1023 Ada St., 78223

  • Central Library, 600 Soledad, 78205
  • Schaefer Branch Library, 6322 US Hwy. 87 E, 78222

The $12.8 million project includes $12.5 million for renovations and $300,000 for public art. Funding for both comes from the 2022 voter-approved City of San Antonio Bond.

The building will be expanded to include a new community meeting space. Other renovation elements for the library include exterior improvements for curb appeal and the addition of service spaces, such as a new African American Resource Center and SAPL’s very first dedicated tween space for children ages nine through 12, along with other building and system improvements.

More information about the Carver Branch Library renovation is available on the library’s website.
