Brook Hollow Branch Library Temporarily Closing to Go Solar

The City of San Antonio program will provide 11 library branches with solar panels.

SAN ANTONIO (September 12, 2025) — The Brook Hollow Branch (530 Heimer Road, 78232) of the San Antonio Public Library (SAPL) is temporarily closing for one day on Monday, September 15, 2025, to complete installation of on-site solar power.
Brook Hollow was selected from more than 300 municipal facilities to receive solar panels. This is part of a $30 million solar program between the City of San Antonio and Big Sun Solar that aims to reduce municipal energy emissions by 18% and help the City meet its 2040 goal of zero net energy for all municipal buildings.
The new solar panel array will provide shaded parking spaces to the library parking lot and is estimated to offset energy costs for Brook Hollow Branch Library by up to 80%.
Library services, including access to the book drop and outdoor Wi-Fi, will be unavailable at Brook Hollow during the brief closure. Full library services are available nearby at:
Any items due to be returned on September 15 will be extended to September 16. Items can be returned to any SAPL location. There are no late fees.
Brook Hollow Branch Library is the second SAPL branch to have on-site solar installed. Solar panels were installed at Igo Branch Library earlier this year. Nine more library branch locations are scheduled to receive on-site solar as part of the program.
This is the second-largest solar program pursued by a municipal government entity in the country. More information on the program is available on the City’s website.
