Animal Care Services and San Antonio Public Library celebrate companionship during National Pet Week
SAN ANTONIO (May 5, 2025) – In celebration of National Pet Week, San Antonio Animal Care Services (SAACS) and the San Antonio Public Library (SAPL) are highlighting the joy pets bring into our lives with activities and adoption specials from May 5 - May 10. Residents will have the chance to learn more about the importance of responsible pet ownership as they enjoy a variety of pet-centric learning events at Library locations across the city.

Pet Go-Bag Craft Activity
- Monday, May 5, 12:30 p.m. – 2 p.m. Great Northwest Branch Library (9050 Wellwood St.)
- Tuesday, May 6, 6 p.m. – 7 p.m. Bazan Branch Library (2200 West Commerce)

Homemade Pet Food Made Easy

Residents can learn more about these interactive, educational events including pre-registration details on the San Antonio Public Library website. All National Pet Week classes are free and open to the public.
Animal Care Services will also offer $25 adoption specials throughout the week in conjunction with the shelter’s Empty The Shelters partnership with the BISSELL Pet Foundation.
National Pet Week was started by the American Veterinary Medical Association to honor the bond between people and pets. Activities during the honorary week are aimed at encouraging families to embrace humane care throughout the lifetime of their companion animal.
