Would-be adopters can take advantage of this opportunity following the recent winter storm.

SAN ANTONIO (January 29, 2026) – Following recent cold weather in the San Antonio area, San Antonio Animal Care Services (SAACS) is expanding adoption opportunities this weekend through a lifesaving partnership with Petco and $0 adoption events designed to help pets transition into permanent homes after emergency weather operations.

SAACS will host an adoption pop-up on Saturday, January 31, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Petco, 3143 S.E. Military Drive, offering residents a convenient opportunity to meet adoption-ready pets and support ongoing recovery efforts at the shelter.

Dogs available at the Petco event will include a mix of adult dogs and puppies, such as:

  • Natas: A caramel-colored senior with a gentle soul. His eyesight isn’t what it used to be, but his nose can still find a good treat. Natas is hoping for a soft place to land and a quiet home to enjoy his golden years.
  • Chonk: Confident, affectionate, and full of life, Chonk is a puppy who plays hard and never turns down a meal. He’s still growing and is expected to be a big boy, with a big personality to match.
  • Dobby: Chonk’s smaller brother, Dobby always looks a little concerned, but he’s really just hoping his forever family is out there. Sweet and endearing, he’s ready for a home of his own.

In addition to the Petco event, $0 adoptions will be available Thursday, January 29, through Sunday, February 1, at SAACS, located at 4710 State Highway 151. Providing multiple adoption options helps the shelter restore capacity following periods of increased intake related to extreme weather and ensures pets can move into safe and loving homes.

Attendees at either event can learn more about SAACS’ foster program and how temporary homes support pets throughout the year. While fostering is always critical to lifesaving efforts, it becomes especially impactful during and after severe weather events, helping the shelter maintain capacity and respond quickly when pets need help.

Every adopted pet will receive the same comprehensive care package, including free sterilization, a registered microchip, vaccinations and access to SAACS shelter trainers. For more information about adoption or fostering, visit SAACS.net and follow @SanAntonioACS on social media.
