Kennels are close to reaching capacity during inclement weather.
SAN ANTONIO (June 15, 2026) – With heavy rain and thunderstorms in the forecast this week, San Antonio Animal Care Services (SAACS) is encouraging the community to help create lifesaving shelter space through fostering and adoption. Critical kennel space is reaching capacity during the shelter’s peak intake season, which has intensified with recent large-scale impounds and ongoing storms.
As weather conditions allow, SAACS is seeking emergency foster volunteers and adopters who can safely provide temporary or permanent homes for shelter pets. Every pet that leaves the shelter creates kennel space for another pet in need.
Residents are encouraged to visit SAACS at 4710 State Highway 151, 78227 by 6:30 p.m. on June 15 to meet pets who need immediate placement. All adoptions include spay/neuter surgery, vaccinations and registered microchip, while fosters will be provided with all necessary supplies and medical care for pets.
