SAN ANTONIO (May 1, 2026) – In celebration of National Pet Week, San Antonio Animal Care Services and the San Antonio Public Library are highlighting the joy pets bring into our lives with activities and adoption specials from May 6 – 10. Residents can learn more about the importance of responsible pet care as they browse curated book displays and enjoy a variety of pet-centric learning events.
The celebration will include “DSL: Dog as a Second Language,” a course led by the SAACS trainers that will help residents safely interact with unfamiliar dogs by learning canine body language. Classes will be offered on the following two dates.
Pan American Branch Library, 1122 West Pyron, 78221 3:30 - 4:30 p.m.
Igo Branch Library, 1330 Kyle Seale Parkway, 78249 3:30 - 4:30 p.m.
Residents can register for the DSL course at SAACS.info/DSL and explore the full lineup of National Pet Week learning events at SAACS.info/PetWeek. All classes are free and open to the public, but space is limited so early registration is encouraged.
Animal Care Services will also offer $25 adoption specials at the shelter throughout National Pet Week in conjunction with SAACS’ Empty The Shelters partnership with the BISSELL Pet Foundation.
