San Antonio International Airport to Receive $2 Million Federal Aviation Administration Grant for Roof Renovation Project
San Antonio (July 14, 2023) – San Antonio International Airport (SAT) will receive $2.2 million from the Federal Aviation Administration’s (FAA) Airport Improvement Program to fund the renovation of Terminal A’s roof.
The roof will be constructed with sustainable materials to enhance energy efficiency, address climate challenges and repair existing leaks.
“We’re so thankful to get this funding to help improve San Antonio International Airport,” said Jesus Saenz, Director of Airports, San Antonio Airport System. “We jumped at this opportunity to apply for the grant when we learned about the Notice of Funding Opportunity that was released in December.”
Construction on the roof renovation project will begin this month. It’s expected to be completed by March 2024.
The FAA awarded more than $267 million in fiscal year 2022 supplemental discretionary grants to SAT and 59 other airports for a total of 79 different projects. The grants will fund a wide range of projects, including reconstructing and rehabilitating runways and taxiways; conducting energy efficiency assessments; procuring electric buses, eGSE chargers, zero emission vehicles, and snow removal equipment; installing solar panels; and developing airport sustainability and resiliency master plans, among many other projects.
