Affordable Housing Bond Impact Shared Through Community Conversations
SAN ANTONIO (May 15, 2026) – Beginning May 18, community members are invited to learn more about the impact of the 2022–2027 Affordable Housing Bond. Approved by voters in May 2022, the $150 million Affordable Housing Bond supports the production and preservation of affordable housing as part of the Strategic Housing Implementation Plan (SHIP).
The Neighborhood and Housing Services Department (NHSD) is leading a citywide community engagement initiative focused on housing priorities. Community conversations will be held in an open-house format, featuring facilitated discussions and brief presentations designed to encourage dialogue and participation.
“As we mark the fourth anniversary of the Affordable Housing Bond, it’s important to recognize what has been accomplished thanks to San Antonio voters,” said Neighborhood and Housing Services Director Veronica Garcia. “Demonstrating the Bond’s impact and how funds have been distributed is critical as we continue making housing investments across the community.”
To date, the voter-approved bond has supported the creation and preservation of over 3,100 homes with an additional 1,100 homes under construction and 970 homes in development. The 2022–2027 Affordable Housing Bond emphasized five categories: homeownership rehabilitation and preservation; rental housing rehabilitation and preservation; rental housing production; permanent supportive housing; and homeownership production.
“As a member of the Housing Commission, it’s encouraging to see both the progress of the Affordable Housing Bond and the continued commitment to community engagement,” said Chair of the Housing Commission’s Public Engagement and Outreach Subcommittee Abe Abraham. “Affordable housing is for everyone, and it’s essential that every voice has the opportunity to be heard.”
The conversation series begins May 18 and will conclude with a late-summer report of findings, which will be made available to the public.
A full list of community conversations is available at the Your Vote, Your Impact: Learn How the $150M Housing Bond Supports Neighbors website. Additional virtual sessions will be announced.
