Acting Police Chief Named

SAN ANTONIO (July 8, 2026) – Effective Saturday, July 11, 2026, Assistant Chief Jesse Salame will serve as Acting Police Chief for the San Antonio Police Department. Acting Chief Salame has served our community within the San Antonio Police Department for over 26 years. He brings a wide range of experience to this position. He was appointed Deputy Police Chief in December 2022, serving as Chief of Staff and overseeing Internal Affairs, Training Academy, Public Information Office and Open Records. In November 2024, he was promoted to Assistant Chief overseeing the Support Operations Bureau.

“I know Jesse well and he is a strong leader who is well respected within and outside the Department,” said City Manager Erik Walsh. “I have full confidence in Jesse leading the Police Department.”

The recruitment for the permanent Police Chief is ongoing and an appointment is expected in September 2026.
