SAN ANTONIO (May 6, 2026) – A voter-approved investment in people is delivering real results for San Antonio by helping our neighbors and our city thrive. The San Antonio Ready to Work (RTW) Program officially surpassed 5,000 approved job placements, marking a major milestone in its mission to connect residents with meaningful careers while strengthening the local economy.
“With hard work, RTW participants are increasing their salaries by an average of more than $33,500,” Workforce Development Executive Director Mike Ramsey said. “That increase in wages and access to benefits can give them and their family added financial stability while at the same time filling in-demand jobs that our city needs.”
As the program continues to grow, so does its impact on local employers. Residents enter the program to gain the training and education needed to secure the job opportunities businesses are looking to fill. When they complete that training, they’re ready to step into critical, in-demand roles across a variety of industries.
“I’m extremely grateful for the opportunity the program provided," RTW participant Sebastian Oberg said, "I truly do not believe I would be where I am today without it.”
Oberg is one of the participants who have been able to utilize the RTW support avenues of tuition assistance, guidance from training providers and wraparound services, such as transportation and childcare assistance, to help overcome challenges that may be standing in the way of success. Today, he and many other RTW participants are entering the workforce prepared with the skills employers need right now.
Healthcare continues to lead as the top industry for job placements, with participants stepping into essential roles such as registered nurses, medical assistants, and pharmacy technicians. Transportation and logistics are another key area, with commercial truck drivers helping ensure goods move efficiently throughout the region. Manufacturing and the skilled trades, such as electricians, HVAC technicians and aircraft mechanics, also remain in high demand, providing vital support across a wide range of employers in the community. The roles have a daily impact on all of San Antonio.
As of today, participants placed in approved jobs earn an average salary of $45,000. In a recent Economic Impact Study, the RTW Program is projected to generate $11.8 billion in benefits to the city, reinforcing its role as a long-term driver of prosperity for San Antonio. By helping residents access training, education, and career pathways, the program is creating a stronger, more resilient workforce that benefits local businesses, families, and neighborhoods.
