SAN ANTONIO (November 23, 2022) — Black Friday is all about scoring deals on electronics and holiday knick-knacks, right? Think again! City of San Antonio Animal Care Services (ACS) has got a (doggie) doorbuster sure to turn your thoughts from toys and TVs to finding the perfect companion.

The ACS “Black Furday” adoption event will spotlight the shelter’s harder-to-adopt pets with a $5 adoption special Friday, Nov. 25, 2022. Pets with darker hued coats traditionally have a tougher time getting adopted from animal shelters. This phenomenon is so common that it even has its own name – black dog syndrome.

This Friday only, any ACS pet with even a spot of black on them will be available for a reduced adoption fee. All ACS adoption guidelines apply, and would-be adopters should plan on spending at least half an hour getting to know their new pet.

The free ACS matchmaker service will also be available throughout the event and all adopted pets are sterilized, vaccinated, licensed, microchipped, and de-wormed. Although the shelter will be closed in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday, ACS will reopen for adoptions on Friday from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. ACS is located at 4710 State Highway 151.
