Upgrades made to the Library’s heating and air conditioning systems.

SAN ANTONIO (February 8, 2023) – San Antonio Public Library’s (SAPL) Cortez Branch will reopen to the public on Feb. 14 at noon after a significant upgrade to the building’s heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems.

Cortez Branch Library, located at 2803 Hunter Blvd, 78224, closed in early September for the scheduled maintenance. The reopening signals a return to regular service for the Cortez Branch. Beginning Feb. 14, Cortez will be open Monday & Tuesday from noon—8 p.m. and Wednesday through Sunday from 10 a.m.—6 p.m.

The upgrade to the building’s HVAC systems will help maintain a comfortable environment for Cortez Branch’s patrons and staff.

The Raoul A. Cortez Branch Library opened in 1981 and was named after the pioneer of Spanish-language radio and television stations in the United States. A new lobby and other building upgrades were completed during the most recent renovation in 2009.

Cortez Branch Library serves a rapidly growing area on San Antonio’s southwest side including residents of the nearby communities of Somerset and Von Ormy.

During the closure, interim Library service has been provided at the Ramirez Community Center (1011 Gillette Blvd). The final day for this interim service will be Saturday, Feb. 11, 2023.
