SAN ANTONIO (March 23, 2023) – The San Antonio Parks and Recreation Department invites residents to comment on self-monitoring standards for its Summer Youth Program at 5:30 p.m. on Monday, March 27, 2023, at City Tower Concourse Conference Room A located at 100 W. Houston Street.

The Summer Youth Program is offered at various school sites and 21 community centers from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. weekdays during the summer months. Children ages 6 to 12 at the school sites and 6 to 14 at the community centers can participate in traditional sports, active games, craft projects, fitness activities, nutrition lessons, reading, and enrichment activities in math and science. Meals are provided as a part of the program.

Self-monitoring is used in lieu of State licensing for municipal programs and is authorized by State Regulations of Child Care Facilities. Guidelines cover record keeping, staff qualifications, staffing ratios, responsibilities and training, safety procedures and emergency procedures.  After receiving comments from the public, the Parks and Recreation Department will take the self-monitoring standards to City Council for approval.
