San Antonio (March 9, 2023) – The San Antonio International Airport (SAT) has selected Corgan Associates, Inc., an international architecture and design firm that has designed premier airport terminals in New York, Los Angeles, Nashville, Phoenix and Fort Lauderdale, and Lake|Flato, a nationally-recognized local firm that has designed some of San Antonio’s signature buildings, to serve as the Master Architect team for SAT’s Terminal Development Program. (TDP) The Corgan/ Lake|Flato team will design SAT’s new terminal facility and develop a “sense of place” for anyone arriving in San Antonio.

The City Council approved the $30 million master architect services agreement today by a unanimous vote.

“We’re happy to work with Corgan and Lake|Flato as they honor and elevate the local character of our San Antonio community,” said Jesus Saenz, Director of Airports, San Antonio Airport System.

Lake|Flato is known for its architectural design of the Federal Courthouse in downtown San Antonio and Trinity University’s Dickie Hall, Witte Museum expansion and The Pearl among dozens of other projects throughout Texas and the United States. The local firm has been recognized for “creating enduring spaces that celebrate unique cultures and foster inspiring environments.”

  • terminal roadway realignment

“I’m looking forward to continuing to work closely with both nationally recognized firms to make the new terminal complex a place to be proud of,” said Tim O’Krongley, Deputy Director of San Antonio Airport System, who leads the Terminal Development Team. “They will incorporate our vibrant, unique and welcoming San Antonio culture into the design and construction of the new facilities through the application of the Design Standard Manual and the City’s Public Art Program. All of these architectural and engineering services for our 17-gate new terminal facility will support air service growth over the next few decades.”

Some of Corgan’s large-scale recent projects include:

  • Shanghai Pudong International Airport’s South Satellite Concourse
  • Nashville International Airport’s Terminal Program
  • Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport’s Terminal 3 Re-Development Program and Terminal 4 South 1 Concourse

The City Council also approved today a contract for KGBTexas Communications, a woman-owned local agency, to provide advertising and marketing services for the San Antonio Airport System. The scope of services for the contract includes promoting air service, concessions, customer experience enhancements and branding initiatives for SAT and a  public awareness campaign for the Terminal Development Program (TDP) at the airport.

“We are pleased to continue working with KGBTexas to communicate the benefits of traveling from or to San Antonio International Airport and Stinson Municipal Airport, our continued elevation to customer experience including more dining, retail and parking options, as well as the significant opportunities presented by the TDP,” said Jesus Saenz, Director of Airports, San Antonio Airport System. “KGBTexas has the experience and the local knowledge to keep us on the positive trajectory the airport has established.”

“As an agency, we are focused on clients and issues that have positive consequence in the community,” said Katie Harvey, founder and CEO of KGBTexas. “Few things are more important for economic growth, business and talent development and retention and quality of life than having a world-class airport that meets the needs of our fast-growing region. We are enthusiastic to be partners with the airport team and the city on this incredibly important effort.”

In addition to its previous work with the San Antonio Airport System, KGBTexas has also worked with multiple airport systems around the State of Texas, as well as other transportation- and transit-related initiatives.
