D10 Councilman partners with Congressman Gonzales on Rising Violence against Police Officers
SAN ANTONIO (September 11, 2023) – Last Friday, Councilman Marc Whyte was honored to attend and speak at the 47th Annual Combined Law Enforcement Associations of Texas (CLEAT) Convention alongside U.S. Congressman Tony Gonzales, Danny Diaz of The San Antonio Police Officers’ Association, Charley Wilkison from CLEAT, and State Representative Steve Allison.
The Councilman is committed to working with the City, County, State, and Federal officials and commended Congressman Gonzalez for introducing legislation aimed at reducing assaults on law enforcement officers. “I want to commend Representative Gonzales for adopting the Curbing Offense on Policing Services (COPS) Act,” the Councilman said, “which will implement stricter penalties for crimes against police officers and first responders.” This is the first of many initiatives to target violence in the city and advocate for strong public safety policies.
In light of the recent shootings involving San Antonio Police Officers, the Councilman also wanted to extend thoughts and prayers to the families and loved ones of those affected. “This should have never happened in the first place,” the Councilman added. “These men and women continue to lay their lives on the line for our safety, and we owe it to them to fight against a judicial culture that is becoming soft on crime.”
