Cody Branch Library is nestled between quiet neighborhoods on San Antonio’s north side along a busy strip of Vance Jackson between Wurzbach Parkway and Huebner Road. The library is equally lively, recording nearly 160,000 visits in 2023 and placing it regularly among SAPL’s top five most visited branch library locations.

The Edmund Cody Branch Library opened April 29, 1984 as the 14th branch established by the San Antonio Public Library. The library is built on land donated by the Northside Independent School District (NISD) and is named in honor of Mr. Edmund Cody, who served as the Superintendent of NISD for seventeen years. Mr. Cody was instrumental in promoting the community library. Cody Branch Library was renovated and expanded between 1998-1999, when the facility’s meeting and study rooms were added.

Upon its opening, the Friends of Cody Branch Library funded the purchase furniture and items for the collection. The current Friends of Cody will be at the 40th Anniversary celebration hosting a used book sale and recruiting new members to support the library.
