Oral Health Projects

Restoring oral health in children is a key component of Metro Health dental projects. Program staff work with parents and caregivers to ensure children are connected to dental treatment. This includes those that are uninsured or under insured for required care.

Title V

If you child does not qualify for Medicaid or CHIP, they might qualify for Title V. Children 6 months to 17 years of age may qualify for Title V financial dental assistance based on Federal Poverty Income guideline. Qualification is based on household income and number of family members. Contact the Dental Services Title V Program Liaison to find out if your child qualifies.

Miles of Smiles (MOS)

MOS provides limited oral evaluations, fluoride, and sealants at participating elementary schools. If you want to know if your school participates in MOS, contact the Dental Services MOS Liaison.

Head Start/Early Head Start Oral Health Services

There are four Head Start (HS) programs. They provide limited oral evaluations, fluoride varnish, and oral health education. If you are interested in obtaining more information on HS services, contact the HS and Early HS Liaison.

The Dental Program provides oral health assessments for community groups and conducts oral health educational fairs.

It also links those who need urgent care without a dental home to providers who can provide the necessary services to them at little or no cost.

Services

Fluoride varnish makes teeth stronger. Fluoride varnish is applied with a brush, is painless and easy to apply.

Dental sealants "seal out" germs to prevent cavities on molars (back teeth). Sealants are easy to apply and do not hurt. Most cavities can be prevented with dental sealants and fluoride varnish.
